mad al 146
I don't, I used to be I guess . I put a similar thread to this on another site after some things bantered about on here recently got me thinking. I come from a "sporting" family, always been guns, dogs, ferrets etc through our doors over the years and I'm talking about forty to fifty years to present day. My earliest stuff would have been after mice with a sheepdog in the fields at a very early age, out with my Dad with his ferts and terriers. Out shooting with a 12g and Spaniel, I'd fired one very early on and as soon as I was old enough I used the "home" shotgun which was always parked by the back door. We lived even more in the stix then than I do now, no electricity or water and I remember the mutt would lay in front of the open fire waiting for the nod. There were no "permissions" as such then as we'd have been on land that our family had covered for generations, everybody knew everybody and would just get on with the job in hand. For the last ten years after I'd sold my other guns, I've gone down the air rifle road and have the most land I've ever owned, it has six thousand + trees on it and at the moment is basically vermin free, thanks to the rifles and our dogs, about 18 months ago I bought my first Lurcher, a Bullcross and along with a Rottie and a Shar Pei these are my crew, the big plans I had initially have been curtailed a bit, mainly due to health and other commitments, I found this out the hard way and thought about packing it all up, but the fact is I can't, I've had to knock the "whole picture" on the head but that still leaves me with our place and a couple of mates I do a bit for and this I can do at my pace and so I am out 365 mornings and most early evenings of the year with the rifle and mutts BUT , I'm a farmer, not a hunter and what we do is an occupation not a feckin pastime. Now think about what I've just written, say my health goes and I have to pack it all in, I'd have to get someone in to do the work for me, main quarry would be rabbits and squirrels, now there's a few I could ask and our land would then become their permission. So folks don't assume that just because some members don't post endless drivvle about my dog's the bizz 100+ rabbits a night or my rifle is the "smokin" gun that they failed to find in the Far East as some members on here do think others know feck all, as all you're doing is tarring yourselves with the same brush in believing you're the only feckers who "walk the walk". With that in mind I'd say there's quite a few on here who need to "get real" I think maybe we'd all have a bit of a shock if ever the figures were known, but does it really matter? We're all members on a hunting site............end of
JPTfellterrier 65
sounds like you had a lovley child hood and live in a lovley place a real hunter? i ask myself, not really i come from a non hunting, mostly anti hunt family, iam female and only 16 so everything is working against me really ....the good thing is i have good people behind me who i would consider highley experienced who are up the road or at the other end of the phone if i have any querries. i have my own permision and my own dogs so i have everything i need to one day (in many years time) to teach others about how i like to hunt( i go by 5 rules see my "about me" on my profile thingy) and i think i have good morals but as i say iam still learning and i always will be.......for example im learning to shoot soon and going duck shooting, im bringing on my first lurcher and bringing on my first terrier from a pup so over all, one day i hope to be a good, experienced and good moraled hunter who can teach others but i do not really wish to be a "real hunter" also i would like to agree and say we are all like minded people on a hunting forum, some of us may hunt more than others, some of us may be more experienced than others but we can all learn from one anouther
